The Purpose of Preaching Part II
It Counteracts the Darkness
Intro: Last week we looked at Part 1 of the
series with a message entitled Preaching Conveys the Desires of God. We looked at how preaching is the mode by
which God has chosen to communicate His will to His people.
A. Preaching Confronts
the Darkness
·
2 Peter 1:19
We have also a more sure word of
prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth
in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
There’s
nothing more confrontational than Holy Ghost anointed, Bible preaching.
It was
designed by God to be a voice for right, a voice for God.
·
Isaiah 58:1 Cry
aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their
transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
B. Preaching Condemns the
Darkness
·
Isaiah 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good,
and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put
bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
·
1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore
judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to
light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the
hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
·
2 Corinthians 4:6 For
God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our
hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of
Jesus Christ.
·
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises
of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
C. Preaching Counteracts the Darkness
I love the
way our Bible starts out.
The earth was
without form and void, and DARKNESS was upon the face of the deep.
AND THE
SPIRIT OF GOD MOVED UPON THE FACE OF THE WATERS. AND GOD SAID…..
Isn’t it
amazing that the first time we see darkness in our Bible, we see the Holy
Spirit moving through the WORD OF GOD!!
·
Psalms 18:28 For thou wilt light my candle:
the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
·
Psalms 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
·
Psalms 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth
light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
