Thursday
The service last night was tremendous. It poured rain a few times in the hour before
church. Most of the church folk either
walk or ride motorcycles to church, so we were concerned that there might not
be anybody there. Fortunately, it
stopped raining about 10 minutes before church and people started trickling in
and over the next little bit, the church filled almost completely up. We were thankful to see both the Haitian and
the Dominican congregations together for the start of the Soulwinning
Conference. Brother Lane led in a few
songs and asked Brother Hall if he would share a testimony, which he did. After
that, I had the opportunity to preach the first of three messages on the
subject of soulwinning and personal evangelism.
I had great liberty and Bro. Lane translated for me into Spanish. We had a great rhythm going and after a few
minutes settled into an effective delivery.
The altar was full after the message and our hearts were thrilled to see
God working in the hearts of His people.
We enjoyed a great night’s rest and another delicious
breakfast by the river. Brother Lane met
us and took us around the area and showed us some of the waterfalls and the
surrounding neighborhoods. It felt good
to get out and walk and see a tropical jungle in person for the first
time. The weather is unreal. The highs today was 81 and there was a great
breeze. I joined the boys in the back of
the truck for much of the trip and we had a great time up there watching
Brother Lane dodge the motorcycles and pedestrians. The traffic here is crazy! We walked on some swinging bridges and
explored several of the local rivers and waterfalls. The boys jumped in and was joined by Brother
Lane. They had a great time jumping off
of the rocks into the waterfall. After a
few minutes of cooling off, we hiked back down the mountain to the truck.
After a time of fellowship and a delicious lunch at the Lane’s
home, we went to town to look for some equipment for the church sound
system. I notice last night that there
was a need for a particular item and told Brother Lane I wanted to see if we
could find one today but was unable to locate it. I realized that we weren’t in the big city of
Baltimore anymore. We returned to the
hotel to rest and get ready for the evening service. Please help us pray that the service last
night was just the start of a great move of God in the church here.
