Dominican Republic Missions Trip Day 1 :: 8/10/16 2:52 pm

Dominican Republic Mission Trip Day 1

Well, I have finally had a few minutes to stop and post an update on our trip.  We had a great trip yesterday.  We really appreciate Bro. McCain driving us to Reagan Airport in DC at 4:30 AM.  The Lord blessed us with a couple of great flights.  We had a 3 ½ hour flight down to Puerto Rico and then a 45 minute flight over to the Dominican Republic.

We were greeted by Brother Wes Lane and it was good to see him again.  The first place we stopped was a small store to exchange our US currency into the DR pesos. While we were standing there, two men on a motorcycle hit Bro. Lane’s van and nearly broke off his rear view mirror. He wasn’t too bothered by it.  He said it happens all the time…

We checked into the hotel and was pleased to see that it was very modern and comfortable.  Some trips I’ve been on…. Oh well. Never mind those…  We got settled in and had a great supper here at the hotel with Bro. Lane and his wife.  It was good to get caught up on the last 30 years of missionary work here on this island.  The food was outstanding, and the open air restaurant is right on the river.  With the sound of water falling in the background, we got to know the Lane family better.  We hit the sack about 10 PM and slept soundly.  Thank the Lord for hot showers, cold air conditioners, and soft beds.

We got up this morning and enjoyed a quick breakfast before heading up the mountain to the camp that Bro. Lane has been working on for the past 10 years.  Here is where several of the church’s he’s started all come for Youth Conferences, Leadership Conferences, Family Camp, etc.  It is a work in progress, but they have already been using it and will keep working on it as they get the money.

While we were there, we helped him sort through some boxes of Chick tracts and Bibles to distribute in some of the other churches and towns.  After seeing the camp, we drove down the mountain to the church.  This is where we will be preaching each night this week on Soulwinning and Evangelism.

After seeing the church, we stopped by the Lane’s home for sandwiches and fresh fruit.  I absolutely love the fruit here – mangos, papaya, pineapple, avocado, cantaloupe and more.  The coffee here is OUT OF THIS WORLD! The weather is 82 degrees today with a nice breeze.  Please pray for us as we start the Soulwinning Conference tonight.  I’ll post more news later.
