The Children – The Heritage of the Home

I. The Definition of Children
                                A. an olive tree – evergreen, beautiful, beneficial, wealth,
·         Psalms 128:3  Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

                                B. a heritage
·         Psalms 127:3a  Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:

                                C. his reward
·         Psalms 127:3b  ...and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

                                D. arrows in the hands of a mighty man – which way are you pointing them?
·         Psalms 127:4  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

                II. The Development of Children

A. God's Plan - Deuteronomy 4:10  Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

·         Involves Exposure – I will make them to hear my words
·         Involves Experience – you can’t teach what is not in your own heart
·         Involves Explanation – that they may learn

B. God's Procedure - And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
·         Extensive Teaching – teach them diligently – full time job (Christian education)
·         Expressing Token – sign upon thine hand and frontlets, write them upon the posts.

NOTE: What you teach your children will be evident in their hands, (their deeds), their face (frontlets), and the minute someone walks into your home (posts of thy house, and on thy gates).
