God Knows
Acts 15:18; I Cor. 3:18-20
Intro: We live in the Information Age. Man’s
ability to gather and store information has never been this impressive since
the beginning of civilization.
Many of us use memory sticks and
portable hard drives to carry data around with us – they have become a part of
everyday life and, like all devices, they’re getting smaller and smaller.
However researchers at IBM have pushed the envelope and managed to store and
retrieve digital data from the world’s smallest storage device – an array that
is a mere 12 atoms in size!
I want to
draw our attention this morning to the Omniscience of God - to God’s ability to
KNOW.
When it seems
that nobody knows or cares what is going on in our lives, GOD KNOWS!
In God’s
Word, we discover that the wisdom of this world is FOOLISHNESS WITH GOD.
The smartest
of men are fools in the eyes of God.
I. God Knows all about the Worlds
A.
He Knows the Sparrows
·
Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall
on the ground without your Father.
FACTS: How many KINDS of birds are there in
the world? The answer to that is about 10 thousand.
Several of these kinds, or species, are numbered over 3 billion in the world.
HOW MANY BIRDS ARE THERE IN THE WORLD?
There are lots of kinds of birds that are very common, including some sea birds
that spend their whole lives flying around the ocean except when they are
having babies on some tiny island. That makes them very hard to count
correctly. All together the total number of wild birds in the world is
somewhere between 100 billion and 400 billion! The fact that there is such a
big difference in those numbers shows how hard it is to count them all.
B.
He Knows the Space
·
Psalm 147:4 He
telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is
our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
FACTS: The Hubble Space
Telescope site estimates that there are about 10 billion galaxies in the
observable universe! The number of stars in a galaxy varies, but assuming an
average of 100 billion stars per galaxy means that there are about
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that's 1 billion trillion) (21 zero’s) stars in
the observable universe! A recent German super-computer simulation estimates
that the number may be as high as 500 billion, with many older than the Milky Way.
HOW MANY STARS ARE THERE? Astronomers estimate
there are about 200 billion stars in the Milky Way alone. Outside that, there
are millions upon millions of other galaxies also!
And God calleth them all by their names!
II. God Knows all about our Ways
·
Psalm 139:3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all
my ways.
·
Psalms 103:14
For he knoweth our frame…
A. He Knows my
Movements
·
Psalm 139:1 O
LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising,
FACTS: There are 7.3 billion people in the
world. God is able to keep up with every
time one of them stands up, when one of them sits down, when one of them lies
down. FURTHERMORE, He knows why they stood up, and where, and for how long.
God knows
where I am at all times.
·
Psalm 139:7 Whither
shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
·
8
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell,
behold, thou art there.
·
9
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of
the sea;
·
10
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
B. He Knows my
Meditations
·
Psalm 139:2b …thou understandest my thought afar off.
·
Psalm 44:20 If we have forgotten the
name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God
search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
·
I Cor. 3:20 And
again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
FACT: There are over 7.3 billion people in the world.
Each one has thousands of thoughts per day. A number of years ago the NSF (National
Science Foundation) estimated that our brains produce as many as 12,000 to
50,000 thoughts per day depending on how 'deep' a thinker you are (other
estimates run as high as 60,000/day).
As for
regular life, what's disturbing about these 50,000 thoughts per day is that the
vast majority of them are pure nonsense. We often dwell in the past or the
future, obsessing about mistakes we might have made, battling guilt, planning
ahead or worrying. We are constantly drifting into fantasy, fiction and
negativity. GOD KNOWS EVERY THOUGHT OF EVERY PERSON ON THE EARTH AT ALL TIMES.
FURTHERMORE,
HE KNEW THEM BEFORE YOU THOUGHT THEM (…my
thoughts afar off.)
FACT: To further complicate this, there are 6,912 main
languages and 39,491 alternate language names and dialects.
God knows
everybody’s thoughts. From afar. In their own language. 7 ½ billion people –
50,000 thoughts per day.
C. He knows my Material
Needs
Matthew 6:8
Be not ye therefore like unto
them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask
him. Vs. 31 Therefore take no
thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal
shall we be clothed? (For after all
these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye
have need of all these things.
FACT: The number of needs that each individual has is
innumerable. GOD KNOWS “what things”.
D.
He Knows ME
·
Matthew 10:30 But
the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
FACT: The adult human head has anywhere
from 85,000 to 150,000 hairs. On the average, based on your hair color,
·
Blonde
146,000
·
Black
110,000
·
Brunette
100,000
·
Red
86,000
We lose about
100 hairs a day.
JOKE: There are three ways a man wears his
hair - parted- un-parted and departed!
There are 3
stages of hair growth: fuzz, is and was!
God now only
knows how many hairs we have, but each hair is numbered. Individually. For all
7.3 billion people.
III. God Knows all about our
What-ifs
FACT: God knows the probable as well as the actual. God
knows what WOULD have happened and what COULD have happened, just as well as He
knows what ACTUALLY happened.
·
Matthew 11:20-23 20 Then
began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done,
because they repented not: Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida!
for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more
tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. And thou,
Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if
the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it
would have remained until this day. But
I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the
day of judgment, than for thee.
God is able
to know the PROBABLE AND THE POSSIBLE as easily as He knows ACTUAL.
Conclusion: Isaiah
57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the
high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to
revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
God LIVES IN
ETERNITY. No time zones; no bed-time; no nap-time; PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE IS
ALL THE SAME TO HIM. BOTTOM LINE: God
knows!
God knows
every person here. He knows if you have been saved or not. He knows where you
will spend eternity. He knows if you’ve accepted Him as your Savior or not.
